about

I am a travel photographer and writer and have lived in Southeast Asia since 1997.

I was a finalist in the international competition, ‘Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2012’. In 2013 I was selected for ‘Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year’ in three categories and won first prize in the “Food in Action” category.  In 2014, I was a finalist in the ‘Wanderlust Magazine Travel Photographer of the Year’ competition in the ‘Travel Icons’ portfolio category with five images from Inle Lake in Myanmar.

My photography is represented by the premium rights-managed image library,  4CORNERSimages. My food photography is also represented exclusively by StockFood,  www.stockfood.com. Images have appeared in Vanity FairNatGeo Traveller, the UK’s Sunday Times Magazine , the Daily Mail and the Mail on Sunday, the Australian Sunday Telegraph, numerous in-flight magazines, and the Bangkok Post.

I travel extensively throughout Asia conducting research for articles and taking photographs for local and international newspapers and magazines.

My three most recent books were commissioned by John Beaufoy Publishing in the UK as part of the ‘Enchanting Asia’ series.  ‘Enchanting Thailand’, ‘Enchanting Laos’ and ‘Enchanting Cambodia’ each include 190 images accompanied by an introductory text with an overview of the history, geography, culture, festivals, food and so on. The second section is of images with extended captions. ‘Enchanting Myanmar’ was released in November 2012.  Editions in the series on Bangkok and Chiang Mai & Northern Thailand were released in November 2013, along with a 250-image hardback book, ‘Presenting Cambodia’. The ‘Phuket & Southern Thailand’ edition was released in October 2014.

I am also the author of ‘The Traditional Ceramics of South East Asia’, published by the University of Hawaii Press and A&C Black. Considered an authority on the subject, this beautifully illustrated book includes over 200 photographs and comprehensively documents the life and work of craftsmen in Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. As an important record of traditional craftsmanship and a fast-disappearing way of life, the book is essential reading for anyone interested in the anthropology and sociology of South East Asia. The book can be purchased through www.amazon.com

I am a contributing writer to the books ‘To Asia with Love’, ‘To Myanmar with Love’ and the recently released ‘To Thailand with Love’, published by Things Asian Press. I updated DK Eye Witness Guides to Thailand and Bangkok, Sherman Travel Guide to Laos, and Frommers Bangkok Guide. Corporate clients include Leo Burnett, Thai Airways, Tourist Authority of Thailand, Northstar Travel Media, Accor, and Starwood Hotels & Resorts. I have also interviewed and photographed the musicians Jimmy Cliff, Kenny Garrett, Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Billy Cobham, and many more.

My images have been exhibit at The Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year finalists show on four occasion and in the touring exhibition. I have also had exhibitions at the Foreign Correspondents Club in Bangkok, and at iCat Gallery in Vientiane. I was also invited to showcase work at the GREAT British Culture Day at the British embassy in Vientiane.

A keen biker, I spend my spare time motorcycling and have toured extensively on and off-road in northern Thailand and Laos.
