Very beautiful and interesting pictures, love the mural on the first image. I agree, you don't see architectural history being preserved often enough in these parts of the world. Ancient Asian towns seem a bit of a Hollywood fantasy - especially in China, but great to hear it is not the case in Penang.

very impressive photos of a very impressive part of the world. The people now overseeing Penang should be supported and encouraged to maintain the island's heritage because without it, there is little point in visiting yet another destination dominated by buildings made from mirrored glass

it was amazing knowing an existence of the cities in the world without motorcycles. it could be a peaceful place to be!. If I'm the prime minister, i could have been implementing it in my country!.

8-1-11

Dear Mr. Shippen:

I have been a regular visitor to Thailand since 1977, and a resident since 1996.

I very much enjoyed your site, and have passed its link along to friends of mine from the US and the UK who are frequent visitors to South-East Asia.

Do you presently have on your site pictures of the Central World Department store after the fire of May 19th 2010?

Many thanks for this and keep up the excellent professional work!
